A New Milestone in Global Display Technology Industry
On May 20, 2025, BOE announced the early commencement of equipment installation for China’s first 8.6-Gen AMOLED production line at its Chengdu facility, setting a global efficiency benchmark for same-generation production line construction
From achieving full structural completion 183 days ahead of schedule to initiating equipment installation four months early, this project not only establishes a new global standard for semiconductor display production line construction but also highlights BOE’s unparalleled capabilities in planning, coordination, and project execution.
Unlike competitors still in the planning phase for their 8.6-Gen lines, BOE has already transitioned from construction to operational readiness, laying a solid foundation for product testing and mass production. This advancement accelerates the global OLED industry’s shift toward mid-sized applications, driving high-quality growth in the semiconductor display sector.
At the ceremony, BOE Chairman Chen Yanshun officially launched the equipment move-in process, joined by COO Wang Xiping, Project Director Liu Xiaodong, and key partners.
BOE’s Leadership on OLED Innovations
Liu Xiaodong, Director of BOE’s 8.6-Gen AMOLED Project, emphasized:
“Since its groundbreaking in Q1 2024, this AMOLED production line has overcome challenges including adverse weather conditions to achieve structural completion by September 2024. Today’s milestone—early equipment installation—reflects the dedication of our partners and team. Once operational, this line will fill the gap in China’s high-generation AMOLED production and integrate BOE’s cutting-edge OLED innovations, propelling the industry toward technology leadership.”
Key Project Highlights:
- Total investment: ¥63 billion (USD $8.7 billion), the largest single industrial project in Sichuan Province.
- Capacity: 32,000 glass substrates per month (2290mm × 2620mm).
- Applications: High-end touch-enabled OLED displays for laptops, tablets, and smart device.
BOE Technological Breakthoughs:
BOE’s adoption of Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) backplane technology and stacked light-emitting device architecture ensures OLED screens with lower power consumption and extended lifespan, driving innovation in next-gen IT products.
With three existing 6th-Gen flexible AMOLED lines in Chengdu, Chongqing, and Mianyang—plus the new 8.6-Gen line—BOE will operate 4 AMOLED production lines, solidifying its global leadership in OLED technology.
Market Dominance:
- 2024 Flexible OLED Shipments: Ranked No. 1 in China, No. 2 globally (Source: Omdia).
- Patents: Over 30,000 filed for flexible OLED innovations.
Expanding Applications:
BOE continues to dominate high-end markets with foldable, rollable, and edge-to-edge displays, while advancing solutions for automotive and IT sectors. Partnerships with global top-tier brands underscore its technical prowess and industry influence.
2025 Vision: Innovation & Sustainability
